Great Cattle - Great GrassFed Beef
We breed and sell Pineywoods cattle, an endangered, landrace breed. Our cattle are grassfed, pasture raised, raised without antibiotics, raised without added hormones, and are registered with the Pineywoods Cattle Registry and Breeders Association (PCRBA). Pineywoods cattle produce naturally lean beef with a robust beef flavor. They are raised on our land by us for both meat and breeding stock.
Who We Are
Our 125-acre farm, which consists principally of pastures and pine plantation, is located in the rolling piedmont of North Carolina in the small historical farming community of Silk Hope.
Our Practices
We focus on sustainability for both the land and the breed. Our cattle are silvopastured in our forested land and adjoining grass pastures. Silvopasturing is the intentional integrated management of trees, forage land and grazing livestock for their mutual benefit. In the fall, winter and early spring, their grazing is supplemented with hay, and throughout the year they receive alfalfa pellets, free choice minerals and kelp to increase their nutrition and health while keeping them free of commercial grain feeds. Silvopasturing mimics how Pineywoods lived before they were discovered by early settlers in the longleaf pine forests of the South. Pineywoods cattle are naturally lean, and combined with being grassfed, are high in “good” fat (fat which is high in Omega 3 fatty acids) and high in flavor.
